Dancing in ‘civies’ from the 1982 film ‘Ana mish haramia’ (I’m not a thief).
A shamadan (candelabra) performance. This clip is from an old VHS tape that’s been copied so many times that by the time I bought a copy the colour was completely gone leaving only black and white but I believe the dancer was wearing blue. Still, for us dancers, its invaluable as a archive piece. If anyone can ID the dancer I’d be very grateful too.
I have no info at all on this clip. A film scene with a young Farid Shawki. Any IDs on the dancer please?
The clip is from a programme shown on Qatar tv. These settings are called ‘jalsaat’ (s: jalsa) and they’re social occasions where there’s music, singing and dancing. In a relaxed home setting with only the family attending, tea, coffee and sweets are served and people will perform songs to entertain each other. However if there are important guests or its a formal function then professional musicians/dancers are usually employed. The guests at a jalsa can sit and enjoy the music or get up and dance as they like.
From the 1992 film ‘The Dancer and the Devil’ (راقصة والشيطان Al Raqisa w’al Saytan’) . Does the costume remind you of one of Soheir Zaki’s from the same era?
Nagwa Fouad in a nightclub scene from the 1993 film ‘Forsan Akher Zaman’ ( فرسان آخر زمن ). The film starred Farouk al Fishawi, Sabreen and Elham Shaheen.
Oh how I wish I could wear that colour without looking like I have jaundice 🙂
