Samia Gamal (1951) سامية جمال

This is Samia Gamal performing in a scene from the 1951 Egyptian film “Intiqam al Habib” (The Lover’s Revenge انتقام الحبيب). In this film she plays Zahrah who was kidnapped as a child and has been raised by the tribe of rustlers and thieves. The film also starred Yahia Shaheen and famous Egyptian screen actor Farid Shawki plays Hamdan the leader of the thieves. This clip features Tunisian singer and actress Hassiba Rochdi who plays Nadia, Hamdan’s mistress. The male singer performing with her in this clip is Mohamed Abdel Muttalib.
Trivia 1: The film was also released as ‘Le Chacal du Desert’.
Trivia 2:The film was directed by Egyptian born filmmaker Gianni Vernuccio who’d left Egypt when young to return to Italy where he went to university. He returned to Egypt briefly to direct a couple of films including this one. Apparently he was in Italy at the end of WWII and filmed the bodies of Mussolini and his mistress.
