This is a wedding scene featuring tahtib performed by a male dancer. The scene’s from the 1982 Egyptian drama ‘Al Salakhana’ (The Slaughter House السلخانة ) but unfortunately it all ends very badly for the male dancer played by Egyptian actor Saeed Abdel Ghani. The singer at the very beginning of the scene is Ahmed Adaweya. The film starred Adel Adham (at the back wearing blue), Mohamed Reda (the actor not the dancer) and Madiha Kamal. Also starring was Nagwa Fouad who’s in the audience in this scene wearing a red striped galabeya. Nagwa Fouad’s shamadan dance from this movie is available on this channel. Samir Ghanem and Leila Hamada play the bride and groom in this scene.

This is actress Nadia Arslan (نادية أرسلان) dancing in the 1984 Egyptian film ‘حتى لايطير الدخان’ (Hatta la Yateer al Dokhan ‘That the Smoke May Not Blow Away’ or ‘As Not to Blow the Smoke’) which starred Adel Imam who’s also in this scene. Born as Hind Arslan in Lebanon in 1949, she won a beauty contest and shortly afterwards moved to Egypt. She started her Egyptian screen acting career in 1971 and, after marrying a fellow actor, retired from screen roles in 1987. After becoming very religious she expressed regret for her acting career. Nadia Arslan was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and died in 2008.
Also starring in the film were Soheir Ramzy, Sanaa Shafea and Fekry Abaza and the film was based on a novel by Egyptian writer Ihsan Abdel Quddous (1919 –1990).

In this scene we see dancing by an Egyptian dancer/actress named Hana Adel (هناء عادل). All I can find out about her was that she used to dance at local moulids and weddings and then moved to Cairo. It seems that she only appeared in this one movie.
This scene is from the 1954 movie “The Adventures of Ismail Yassin” (مغامرات اسماعيل يس Moghamarat Ismail Yassin) which starred Egyptian comedian Ismail Yassin and Kamal al Shinnawi who are the two men watching. The film also starred singer/actress Shadia.
This clip is from the early 1990s and features Israeli dancer Vered Goldberg with Iraqi/Israeli singer George Bar. The blue bedlah that Vered is wearing is a classic old-school design by Egyptian ‘costumier to the stars’, Madame Abla. The pink (or red) bedlah may be from the same source. Sadly, Vered Goldberg was only 23 years old when she was killed in a car crash on her way to perform a show.
Many thanks to Amoura Latif and Meital Sassi for their background information on this clip. Amoura says that this clip is from Israeli tv and that the signal could have been picked up easily in parts of Lebanon which is where this tape comes from originally. This clip is from a VHS cassette that’s has been played dozens of times and has now been converted to digital. Back then, these VHS tapes were all we had and we were grateful for them, However, as a result, the sound and picture quality is not what we would expect nowadays. But what the heck, this is history.
