This is a second clip of legendary Egyptian dancer Nagwa Fouad performing in the 1974 Egyptian film ‘Anisat wa Sayidat ‘ (Girls and Women آنسات و سيدات ). This time she is performing in civvies. The singer in this very badly dubbed clip is Alexandria born Leila Nazmi and the man is Saeed Saleh. The film starred Nour el Sherif and Suhair Ramzi but neither of them appear in this scene.
This is Egyptian dancer Nagwa Fouad performing with a shamadan (candelabra) in a scene from the 1963 film ‘Al Qahira fel Lel‘ (Cairo by Night النادر القاهرة فى الليل). The film starred just about anyone-who-was-anyone in Egyptian movie comedy at the time: Shadia, Fouad al Mohandes, Sabah, Nadia Lotfi, The Three Stagelights (Messrs Sidhom, Ghanem and Ahmed), Hassan Fayek, Fayza Ahmed, Maha Sabry, the list goes on….
This scene is from the 1970 Egyptian comedy ‘Ferket al Mara’ (فرقة المرح literally ‘Fun Band’). The main dancer is of course Nagwa Fouad. Tthe other dancer is actress Shams al Baroudi and the singer is Mohamed Roushdi. The film also starred Tawfik al Deqn. The four sailors sitting at the table are Georges Sidhom (he drops off to sleep), Samir Ghanem, El Deif Ahmed and Ashraf Abdelghafour. Three of them, Sidhom, Ghanem and Ahmed, collectively formed Thulathi adwa’ al Masrah (the Theatre Lights Trio) appearing together in many films, plays and Ramadan tv series until El Deif Ahmed’s death in 1970 at the age of 33. Sidhom and Ghanem continued as a duo until 1982 when Sidhom retired due to ill health. Samir Ghanem has subsequently gone on to have a successful film career.
Trivia: This isn’t the entire clip unfortunately. There’s more of Nagwa dancing at the beginning but I wasn’t quick enough to switch on the ‘record’ button. There’s also at least one more performance by Nagwa in the film, also with Mohamed Rousdhi, but I’ll have to wait until the movie’s shown again.
This is dancer and actress Nagwa Fouad in a second performance from the 1961 Egyptian drama ‘Lematha Aish’ (‘Why I’m Living’ لماذا أعيش) which starred Shokry Sarhan, Suad Hosni and Mohsen Sarhan.
This is dancer and actress Nagwa Fouad performing in a further scene (there’s an earlier scene posted below) from the 1969 Egyptian film ‘Seraa al Mohtarefin’ (‘Battle of the Professionals’ or ‘Professional Conflict’ صراع المحترفين). The film starred Rushdi Abaza, Naglaa Fathi and Kawthar Shafik.
Trivia: The star of this film, Rushdi Abaza, was married to dancer Tahiya Karioka and later to married to Samia Gamal. His 1977 marriage to Lebanese singer Sabah lasted less than a week as he was still married to Samia Gamal at the time.
This is Nagwa Fouad performing in the 1972 Egyptian comedy film ‘Adwaa el Madina’ (City Lights أضواء المدينة) which starred Shadia, Ahmad Mazhar, Adel Imam, Ibrahim Saafan and Abdel Monem Ibrahim. Despite having big stars, many songs and a big budget, the film failed to make an impact with audiences.
This is a further scene from the 1961 Egyptian film ‘H3’ (‘Haa 3’ هاء 3) featuring Egyptian bellydance legend Nagwa Fouad. The film starred Rushdi Abaza and Tawfik al Deqn who are the two men watching her.
In this film Rushdi Abaza plays Abbas, an elderly men who wants to be young again. The film tells the story of his experiences with ‘H3’, a wonder drug that can reverse the effects of growing old.
