Hosna Solomon (1952) حسنة سليمان

This is a ‘Nubian style’ dance by actress Hosna Solomon (1925-1998) from the 1952 Egyptian film ‘Qaleel al Bakht’ (The Unlucky One قليل البخت) which starred Shadia and Kamal al Shinnawi. As you can see, while the music Hosna Solomon dances to is Nubian there’s very little folkloric component in her dance movements. The dancing is strictly Egyptian.

Reda Troupe (1967) Nubian

Nubian style dance for the stage performed by Farida Fahmy, Mahmoud Reda and the Reda Troupe. This is a scene from the 1967 Egyptian film ‘Gharam fi Al Karnak’ (Love in Karnak غرام في الكرنك) which starred Reda, Fahmy and Amin el Heneidi. Mahmoud Reda’s brother Ali who was married to Farida Fahmy, was one of the film’s directors.

Bellydance compilation 1

Bellydance scenes from some Egyptian movies from the 1970s. First, a Nubian theatre troupe, then there’s some scenes from the 70s, the dancer in green is Sohair Ramzy (its supposed to be a dance competition so the girls all dance to the same piece), then there’s a lovely piece by an unknown dancer (again the storyline is that its an audition), this is followed by the latest from Amr Diab’s movie ‘Ebka Kablny’ and finally some short clips of bellydancer/actress Nabila Ebeid in an advert for a upcoming programme.
