Riri (1961) ريري

The dancer in this second clip from the 1961 Egyptian film ‘Sira fil Jabal’ (Conflict on the Mountain صراع في الجبل) is Alexandria born Riri (ريري). The singer is Mohamed Taha (1922 – 1996) who was born in Sindbis in the Nile Delta and worked in a textile factory in Shubra before his big break in show business. The film starred Rushdi Abaza Mahmoud al Meliji and Berlanti Abdel Hamid who are sitting at the table watching the show.
Trivia: Mohamed Taha’s home village of Sindbis has given its name to a strain of mosquito borne virus.

Riri (1957) ريري

This is another clip of Egyptian dancer Riri performing in the 1957 Egyptian comedy, ‘Ismail Yassine lil Beih’ (Ismail Yassine for Sale اسماعيل يس للبيع).
The film tells the story of Leila, played by former child star Fayrouz, who tries to commit suicide but is saved by Ismail (Ismail Yassine).. Fayrouz would have been around 16 years old when this film was made. Some sites give her birth year as 1943 which would have made her only 14 when this film was made. Also starring were Thuraya Helmi and Reyad El Kasabgy.

Her elder son Salama (Abdel Salem al Nubulsi) wants to emigrate to the US while the younger son Adel (Maher el Attar) loves music and singing. They both take money from their mother and travel from Cairo to Alexandria. There they meet Riri a bellydancer (played by Riri) and her sister Tuha (Amal Farid).

Fifi Salama فيفي سلامة & others ‘Zanouba’ (1956)

Three scenes from the 1956 film ‘Zanouba’ which starred Samia Gamal, Shukri Sarhan and Stefan Rosti. Fifi Salama is the dancer in the first scene where Samia is sitting on the couch. I think the second dancer is Riri Ibrahim and the third could be Morsi Mahassen. What do you think?
