Soheir Zaki in the Gulf Part 1

Video

Soheir Zaki performing in Abu Dhabi….probably in the 70s or early 80s nobody really seems to know exactly when.
The second song is the Abdel Halim Hafez song ‘Nebtedi Menein El Hekaya’ (Where do we begin to tell the story). The song became very popular in Greece where it was released by Manolis Aggelopoulos as ‘Ta mavra matia sou’.

Soheir Zaki (1970) سهير زكي

Soheir Zaki performs in a scene from the 1970 film ‘Struggle with Death’ (Seraa Maa el Mawt صراع مع الموت). The film tells the story of a policeman, a dancer and a football player who each undergo heart transplants and who then take on the characteristics of the type of person they’ve received the heart from (yes, yes, I know, it should be “from whom they’ve received the heart”.) The dancer gets a wrestler’s heart. The film also starred Farid Shawki, Mahmoud al Meliji, Tawfik al Deqn and Seif Allah Mokhtar.

Soheir Zaki سهير زكي P2 ‘Pink Lady’

This is the second part of a performance by Egyptian bellydance legend Soheir Zaki wearing a green bedlah. The music in the first part was her signature piece known to most bellydancers as ‘Pink Lady’ and then starting this section, she moves on to the Abdel Halim Hafez song ‘Nebtedy Menein El Hekaya’. Born in Mansoura Egypt in 1944, Soheir Zaki was one of the “three great pyramids” of bellydance during the 60’s and 70’s, the others being Fifi Abdu and Nagwa Fouad.
Caveat: The quality of this video is not the best.

Soheir Zaki سهير زكي P1 ‘Pink Lady’

Born in Mansoura, Egypt in 1944, Soheir Zaki was one of the “three great pyramids” of Egyptian bellydance during the 60’s and 70’s (the others being Fifi Abdu and Nagwa Fouad). The music in this clip is simply wonderful! In English its title is usually given as ‘Pink Lady’ and it used to be available on an old cassette tape with Soheir and the pyramids on the cover. Amoura Latif says that a CD version has since been released by Beata and Horatio Cifuentes.

Soheir Zaki (1963) سهير زكي

Soheir Zaki dances in a ‘film within a film’ scene from the 1963 Egyptian movie ‘Aelit Zizi’ (Zizi’s Family عيلة زيزى) which starred Fouad al Mohandes, Soheir Ramzi and Ahmed Ramzy.  Zizi of the film’s title is a little girl played by Ekram Ezo (1951-2001) who introduces the audience to each of her family members.
Trivia: ‘Zizi’s Family’ was directed by Fatin Abdel Wahab who was married to singer/actress Leila Murad for 15 years. Their son Zaki is now a well known film director in Egypt. At one stage Fatin Abdel Wahab was also one of Tahiya Karioka’s 14 husbands but whether that was before, during or after his marriage to Leila Murad I can’t be sure.

Soheir Zaki (1982) سهير زكي

Soheir Zaki dances in a scene from the 1982 Egyptian film ‘Aroussa Wa Gouz Ersan’ (A Bride and Two Grooms’ عروسة وجوز عرسان). The film starred Samir Ghanem as Essam who goes missing after the ship he’s on sinks. Many years go by and his widow eventually marries Essam’s friend Shaker….then Essam returns unaware that his wife has remarried. The film also starred Waheed Seif, Younes Shalabi, Maali Zayed and Essad Younis. There’s a cameo appearance by Mohamed Reza as himself.
